Buffalo State College Burchfield Penney Art Center
Certified LEED Silver
The Burchfield Penney Art Center is the first LEED certified art museum in the State of New York, and was designed by renowned architecture firm Gwathmey Siegel and Associates Architects. The building is a new art center on the campus of Buffalo State College and is named in honor of artist Charles Burchfield from Buffalo, NY.
The project exceeded its original certification goal of LEED Certified with strategies such as reducing water use by installing waterless urinals to over 40% when compared with code, installing electric car recharging stations for its fleet of electric utility vehicles, and extensive use of FSC-certified wood flooring and interior paneling for the museum's compelling interior spaces.
