Chris’ professional history includes work as a researcher and publisher in sustainability. She founded GreenClips, which operated from 1996-2006, and subsequently provided government agencies and utilities with policy research related to energy efficiency. As part of this work, she has conducted literature reviews on the behavioral aspects of energy consumption; used ethnography, surveys, and interviews to study the energy habits of targeted populations; and designed and implemented strategies to engage targeted populations in saving energy.

Chris has also created occupant engagement efforts to increase recycling and reduce energy and water consumption in commercial office buildings and schools using community-based social marketing (CBSM) methods. In planning and implementing behavior change programs, Chris identifies target behaviors, defines behavior change strategies (prompts, goals, pledges), and measures energy consumption before and after intervention.
