Ilana's Role at Brightworks
Ilana provides technical oversight and guidance for greenhouse gas emissions calculations, decarbonization and energy efficiency planning, engineering studies, Level 1 and 2 energy audits, and commissioning for new and existing buildings. They are an expert in integrated consulting spanning from the portfolio- to building-level, holistically examining all aspects of building performance from individual HVAC systems to overall company decarbonization strategy. They often provide ongoing strategic energy management planning for building owners and operators, as well as auditing and compliance planning for state-level Building Performance Standards, like the Washington Clean Buildings Performance Standard. They have also completed demand-side energy efficiency program and modeling for several city energy plans.

With 15 years of experience in a wide variety of energy efficiency, sustainability, HVAC and other related fields, Ilana Cember has deep expertise in guiding clients to reduce energy usage, carbon emissions, and costs while improving overall facility operations. Their experience spans multiple industries, including extensive expertise in commercial buildings, healthcare, and education. Prior to joining Brightworks, Ilana built the standards and deliverables for Washington’s Clean Buildings Performance Standard (CBPS/HB 1257), primarily ASHRAE level 2 energy audits and comprehensive energy management and operations & maintenance plans. Ilana has also completed the demand-side energy efficiency programs and modeling for several municipal energy plans throughout Washington State. They hold professional engineering licenses in multiple states, in addition to Certified Energy Management (CEM) and LEED AP BD+C accreditation.
