Contact Alexandra Setmajer
Project Manager & Materials Specialist
Alex is a Project Manager and Materials Specialist at Brightworks Sustainability, where she helps clients navigate the escalating complexity of material choices in the built environment.
Her experience with healthy and sustainable materials includes working directly with building project teams pursuing the Living Building Challenge Materials Petal and Red List Vetting, LEED Materials credits, custom corporate healthy materials programs, measuring embodied carbon and building life cycle assessments (LCAs), and more. Alex also works directly with product manufacturers to advise and support them to improve their transparency and sustainability initiatives, including pursuing Declare labels, Living Building Challenge compliance documentation, sustainability strategy, identifying opportunities for improvement, and communicating their sustainability achievements.
Additionally, she is involved in the development of Brightworks’ materials scoring tool, a proprietary tool that helps designers select preferred materials by scoring products across a number of indicators, including health, carbon, composition, water use, waste, circular design, and worker and community social benefit. Her volunteer engagements in the sustainability industry include serving as the Research and Advocacy Co-Chair for the International Living Future Institute Portland Collaborative, and as a member of the mindful MATERIALS Content Working Group.
With a background in sustainability for infrastructure projects, Alex also ranks in the top-tier of consultants with expertise in the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure’s (ISI) Envision rating system. She is currently guiding the Envision program for the Los Angeles International Airport’s (LAX) new Automated People Mover, a critical piece of new infrastructure for the region, which will host the 2028 Olympic Games.
