As Brightworks Sustainability’s marketing manager, Billy Ulmer collaborates with Brightworks team members to establish, implement, and continuously refine the systems, resources, tools, policies, procedures, programs, and projects used to maintain Brightworks’ strong, market-leading position.
With over ten years of marketing experience and six in commercial green building, Billy is also sought-after by Brightworks clients seeking to join the professional speaking circuit to showcase their notable achievements and motivate others to take action. Billy has successfully secured speaking engagements for Brightworks clients and team members at the Living Future Unconference, Greenbuild, the Living Product Expo, the BOMA International Conference and Expo, the Getting to Zero Forum, GoGreen, and others.
Billy is also an experienced advocate for sustainability and innovation in residential real estate. He is a co-owner of PAD Tiny Houses, one of the original companies in the tiny house movement. He also ran the marketing programs for the 2015 and 2017 Build Small Live Large Summits in Portland, Oregon. The 2015 Summit gathered regional experts in accessory dwelling units (ADUs), tiny houses and cottage communities. For the 2017 Summit, he collaborated with the Portland State University Institute for Sustainable Solutions and regional government agency Metro to transform the event into the first ever national gathering of leaders in ADU policy, development and design.
Billy’s writing and work have appeared in the Congress for the New Urbanism Public Square, Portland Monthly, the Oregonian, TreeHugger, MindBodyGreen, Boingboing.net and ChrisGuillebeau.com.
