A project coordinator in Brightworks Sustainability’s Oakland office, Matthew Pietro joins Brightworks with experience at University Hospitals Health System, Cleveland Clinic, and the New York and Northeast Ohio chapters of the U.S. Green Building Council.
As a senior sustainability specialist in University Hospitals Health System’s Office of Sustainability, Matthew played a key role in the design and implementation of the health system’s corporate sustainability program. This included inter-departmental programming in the areas of high performance building, energy management, healthier food sourcing, and procurement efforts targeting improved efficiencies and safer chemicals. Matthew also structured a framework for goal-setting and communications for the 30,000+ employees of the organization, along with its local community stakeholders.
As the office lead for University Hospital Health System’s green building and energy management program, Matthew led the development of system-wide sustainable design, construction, and operations policies; coordinated the initiation of a comprehensive energy management strategy; and served as owner’s representative for multiple LEED projects.
Prior to University Hospitals Health System, Matthew served as Cleveland Clinic’s Interim Education & Outreach Coordinator in its Division of Operations, Office for a Healthy Environment.
