Cook Security Group
New Headquarters & Operations Center
By achieving Earth Advantage Commercial Gold certification, this new facility will satisfy a development agreement with the Portland Development Commission and attract clients and employees with its sleek design and roof deck overlooking Mt. Hood.
Cook Security Group, a provider of electronic and physical security for financial and other institutions, is growing into a new headquarters space in Portland, Oregon. The company’s new offices at Cascade Station near the Portland Airport will be more modern, environmentally-responsible, and conveniently located. These improvements are a strong selling point for Cook Security’s clients and employees, allowing Cook Security to attract and retain both in a competitive market.
The three-story, 27,000-square-foot building is projected to open in summer of 2018. Scott | Edwards Architecture designed the modern operations center for a modern look and updated amenities. A large “main street” within the building will host glass offices and conference rooms on either side. The third-floor “penthouse” will include an employee break room, a workout room and two retractable glass doors that open onto a patio with a view of Mount Hood. Openings on the lower floors will allow sunlight from the third floor skylights to reach occupants on the first floor.
The design also required juggling complicated site requirements. The site is considered a wetland, and is under the purview of the Port of Portland’s design review process. It is also subject to Federal Aviation Administration regulations due to its proximity to Portland International Airport. Because the land is leased from the Portland Development Commission, the project must achieve either Earth Advantage Commercial Gold certification or LEED Gold certification.
Brightworks helped the team select Earth Advantage Commercial certification as the most appropriate rating system for the project. Tapped to lead the sustainability program for the building early in the design phase, Brightworks helped Cook Security develop a green building program that is pragmatic, budget-friendly, and meaningful. Brightworks will act as the Earth Advantage Commercial Project Steward, guiding the team through this certification process.
